This stamp is part of a 1977 Comorian series dedicated to endangered animals. It depicts the Gray Wolf (Canis lupus), one of the most widely distributed wild canids in history. Wolves have played an important role in the ecosystems of Europe, Asia, and North America as apex predators, helping to maintain the balance of wildlife populations. During the twentieth century, however, hunting, habitat loss, and human expansion led to significant declines in many wolf populations.
