Issued in 1976 as part of the United States Bicentennial (1776-1976) series, this stamp commemorates two legendary figures associated with the exploration and settlement of the American frontier: Daniel Boone, the pioneer and explorer who helped open the Kentucky frontier, and William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, the scout, buffalo hunter, and showman whose life became closely linked with the mythology of the American West.
