The Mausoleum of President Saïd Mohamed Cheikh (Mausolée du Pdt Saïd Mohamed Cheikh) was erected to honor the revered Comorian statesman who led the territory as President of the Governing Council from 1961 until his death in 1970. Located in Moroni, the memorial structure features a blend of traditional dark volcanic stone and whitewashed masonry topped with Islamic crescent motifs and arched colonnades, serving as a national monument to his pivotal role in guiding the archipelago toward internal autonomy and administrative modernization. Issued by the postal administration of the Comoros Archipelago (Archipel des Comores), this 35-franc postage stamp (POSTES) depicts the mausoleum complex set against a backdrop of tropical palm trees.
