The Préfecture building
The Préfecture building in Moroni stood as a principal administrative center for colonial governance and territorial executive affairs on Grande Comore. Perched on an elevated site framed by coconut palms, the building blends traditional European administrative design with regional crenellated parapets and arched verandas suited to the tropical climate. Designed by P. Lambert, this 20-franc postage stamp (POSTES) highlights the two-story white stone edifice of La Préfecture, celebrating Moroni's prominence as the administrative heart of the territory.
