The island of Anjouan (Nzwani)

The island of Anjouan (Nzwani / Île d'Anjouan), known as the "Pearl of the Comoros," is the second-largest island in the Comoros Archipelago. Recognized for its distinctive triangular shape, rugged mountainous terrain, and deep valleys dominated by Mount N'Tingui (1,595 meters), Anjouan has historically served as a vital maritime trading hub and agricultural center, famous for producing essential oils like ylang-ylang alongside vanilla and cloves.To highlight the geography and key settlements of the island, the postal administration of the Comoros Archipelago (Archipel des Comores) issued a dedicated 100-franc airmail stamp (POSTE AERIENNE). Designed by Béquet and engraved by Jean Lacaque (LACAQUE), this detailed cartographic stamp features a map of Anjouan marked with geographical coordinates and key settlements across the island including the capital Mutsamudu, Sima, Bambao, Domoni, Ouani (showing the airfield icon), and the central peak of Mount N'Tingui.
