The Palace at Bambao
The Palace at Bambao (Palais à Bambao), located on the island of Anjouan (Nzwani), holds a prominent place in the colonial architectural and agricultural history of the Comoros Archipelago. Bambao was the historic site of the extensive sugar and essential oil plantations established in the late 19th century by the French trader Léon Humblot, who formed the powerful Société de la Grande Comore / Société de Bambao. The estate's residence combines traditional local stone construction with European colonial veranda architecture, reflecting the island's economic history centered on cash crop production such as ylang-ylang, vanilla, and sugarcane.

Designed by P.
