Moroni Air Terminal - 100 CFA
The construction of the Moroni Air Terminal in the mid-20th century marked a major milestone in developing civil aviation and transport infrastructure for the Comoros Archipelago (Archipel des Comores). As the principal island gateway connecting Grand Comore to neighboring Indian Ocean territories and international routes, the modern terminal was designed not only as a functional transit center but also as a showcase for local art and identity, featuring distinctive interior murals and decorative artwork (Décoration Intérieure) celebrating Comorian culture and native flora.
To commemorate the inauguration of the new airport facility, the postal administration of the Comoros Archipelago (Archipel des Comores) issued a dedicated 65-franc airmail stamp (POSTE AERIENNE). The issue features an artistic representation of the interior wall decoration of the new Moroni air terminal (Nouvelle Aérogare de Moroni), depicting vibrant stylized motifs of local life, tropical vegetation, and regional architectural elements against a soft background.
